Another major problem is digestive tract obstruction. This happens when the gecko ingests something that it cannot actually digest. This can be sand, substrate, gravel or any other material that is inside the tank. If it ate something like the materials mentioned, this can cause a serious blockage and may kill your reptilian pet.
Mouth infections also occur in leopard geckos. It can be caused by either fighting or a dirty cage or an injury. If your gecko’s mouth is swelling all of a sudden, it would be best to bring it to the vet and then get the cage cleaned. You will be usually given an oral antibiotic for your gecko to treat this ailment.
Much like people and other animals, geckos also experience respiratory infection. This can happen if the habitat or the tank is too cold for comfort. If your gecko all of a sudden has trouble breathing and it has mucus bubbles coming out of its nostrils then you can be sure that your gecko has the flu. This is no laughing matter that is why you have to increase the temperature of the cage to correct the problem.
